At Haig House our motto is “Tyde what may” and as such, we seek to create a sense of security and safety while also contributing to our pupils’ sense of belonging, self-esteem and self-respect.

Haig House is a boarding house for boys in S1-S6. It provides accommodation for up to 64 boys together with a resident Housemaster, Mr Niall Lear, Deputy Housemaster, Mr John Porter and Matron, Mrs Carol Dunn. Accommodation is in the form of single or double rooms and the House also has its own common room and kitchen. S6 pupils share their own common room with boys from Cunningham House.

Haig House staff recognise that Haig boys have many different backgrounds and needs, and aim to treat all pupils as individuals and provide an environment in which all may thrive. In addition to meeting the physical needs of all Haig boys, we aim to:

  • Develop an open and trusting ethos in which boys are confident that they will be treated with respect as an individual

  • Allow boys to develop a sense of responsibility for self, others and the environment

  • Provide a range of experiences, opportunities and conditions that will encourage self-development: physically, spiritually, intellectually, morally, socially and emotionally

  • Ensure that bullying, in whatever form, is not tolerated

  • Enable boys to develop leadership qualities and the ability to work as part of a team

  • Encourage supportive relationships between boys, staff and parents.
