The development of the whole child is a primary focus at Queen Victoria School and the role of extra-curricular activities, hobbies and sport is most important.

Activities and events are on-going throughout the session and range from House outings to the theatre and cinema to sporting fixtures in hockey, rugby and athletics. Each House has a calendar of social events and tutors regularly take their tutor groups out of school for small social evenings or activities.

A large number of our pupils participate in the School’s corps of Pipes, Drums and Highland Dancing. The School is very proud of this aspect of the School’s ceremonial tradition and our pupils have performed throughout the UK and internationally, for example at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, Nova Scotia in Canada and Basel in Switzerland among numerous other locations and events.

There is also an extensive programme of hobbies that runs from October to March. Staff members offer hobbies ranging from drama, pottery and instrumental tuition to ski-ing, cross-country and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme. This latter hobby works in close conjunction with the Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force sections of the School’s Combined Cadet Force.
